Hey there~!

Humble Bundle's Freedom Bundle is awesome! Check it out here: www.humblebundle.com/freedom

It's available for 1 more day and 9 hours and 54 minutes at the time of posting this journal.

For $30, it offers over 40 computer games (most of them are even for Mac and Linux and lots are DRM-free and/or have Steam keys!), some digital books, and even a documentary series!

Plus, all the proceeds go to help the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), the IRC (International Rescue Committee), and MSF (Doctors without Borders)! Woohoo! You get to choose how much for each one, too.

I split one with a friend, and so far, my favorite game of the bunch that I've played is VVVVVV. Head's up though, that one does have a lot of flashy colors. I think the flashiness and other stuff can be turned off or on in the options menu for accessibility. : )

Thanks for reading~!

It's the beginning of December. Where's that art I said I might post? Lol ; p

It's a pumpkin I decorated and brought to life! I really love them! I really want to have a photo shoot, soon; I just gotta work out a schedule with my dad.

***

Moana is in theatres! And it's a musical! I really hope my family can make it to see a showing some time this month. I'm really looking forward to this one!

***

Also, I'm disappointed that I missed out on seeing the Queen of Katwe in theatres. Gotta get my family to rent it as soon as possible!

***

I did finally see Finding Dory recently, though. Baby Dory is so cute and believable. I wish she had had more screen time! It was also really nice to see Nemo again, too.

The movie itself, though, couldn't seem to make up its mind on people with differences. It would say one thing and then show something very different. I feel some character portrayals and interactions really come off as insensitive to people with differences, specifically Becky and Gerald.

I wish they had not been played for comedy and had not been mistreated by other characters without the mistreatment being called out more. I wish they could have been portrayed sympathetically and taken seriously and treated kindly by more characters. I found it really incongruent and jarring that they were animated in a completely different stylization. I wish Pixar had animated them in the same style as the other characters that they seem to  consider people.

All in all, I liked Finding Dory much better than the Good Dinosaur, but consider it some steps back from Inside Out.

In other news, I'll be building my custom desk mod with my dad in 2 weeks! I'm very hyped at the thought of finally having usable shelves and art space! Wheeeeeeeeeee! 8D

We'll paint it white first and then CMY, later. I'm also gonna buy some super cool art from some artists whose work I really admire. YAY! (\(^u^)/) And some frames, too. My room will be much more of a santuary very soon, and I'm so happy about that. : )

***

I've also been working very hard in GM: Studio. I can use alarms and local variables. Now I'm gonna focus on practicing loops. I think I specifically need "While" and "Do(...Until)" for my current project. I really hope they can help me tell the computer how I need the collisions to work.

***

Last but not least, a heads up: I put CMY Wilson in storage. It was a really fun learning exercise, but it does not have a place in my portfolio. I too closely copied Don't Starve's official design and in-game assets by Klei (the clothes change animation) and decided to put it away. Maybe I will replace it with a personalized composition and iteration in the future.

Wow! Where did the month go? It's the end of September already?

That means that The Queen of Katwe is out in theatres now. It's based on the real life of Phiona Mutesi, a modern day Ugandan chess player. I really hope to see it soon! It seems like a story I would really like! : )

***

Ok, so from now on I'll just post art as I make it. Keeping a tight schedule here gives me anxiety and exhaustion, and both these things prevent me from making art. So, the hiatus is over I guess...? But I really won't be putting new stuff up for a while. So take that as you will. :^V

***

I want to get back to work in GM: Studio. I haven't learned alarms and local variables yet because I haven't even been working on them. >:T

***

I'm pricing lumber and extra things for a custom desk mod tomorrow. I'm super duper excited! : D
I'm really hoping that creating an environment that encourages tidiness and a clear workspace will help me make more art more often. And of course, I also want more stuff to decorate! :3

***

Been doing a lot of Wonder Trading in Omega Ruby, lately. Got a lot of good ones I needed, too! Thank you world! ^3^~<3

Also, I've got some new friends coming from the NA Pokémon Center soon! Squirtle and Dedenne. And Goomy is coming from HLJ, too. C:

***

Also from HLJ, I've got two Figma Archetypes in gray coming that I'm sharing with my sister. Very exciting! We're gonna use them for drawing references. I can't wait! 8 D

***

I just realized that I actually might already have some art to share, so I might put some up in the coming week. We'll see...

Yeah, this is a really big break. : c

I saw Kubo and the Two Strings by LAIKA last Sunday. It's very cool stop-motion with cool and fun characters and draws a lot from traditional Japanese culture and fantasy. However, there was a big emphasis on a metaphor about blindness and inhumanity that I was uncomfortable with. Also, there are very sad parts. So, it's up to you if this movie seems like one you want to look up and see.

***
In other news, I know how to use instance and global variables in GameMaker: Studio now! Woohoo! : D
I really love planning out all the variables, and I want to learn to use them with alarms.
So local variables and alarms are what I want to focus on learning next. C :
As for picking up and dropping items, I haven't experimented with them for a while now, though. heh...

***
Oh! And I got my order from the NA Pokémon Center website yesterday. A bunch of new Pokémon friends!
I love them a lot! : D

-Mew Plush
-Bulbasaur Doll
-Venusaur Doll
-Cyndaquil Kuttari
-Small Substitute Plush

I really do want to get back into paper crafting.
I just feel like I've got all these roadblocks in my way. : (
I hope I can work up the gumption soon. : )

Still on Hiatus

1 min read
Yup. I'm still on hiatus.

I'll check back in again in a month.

***

I've been playing around in Aseprite a little bit and find it super fun! I'm thinking that maybe those fan portraits I want to do will be pixel portraits.

***

I've also been very busy working with Gamemaker Studio for the past two weeks. I feel proud that I've come such a long way, but I really want to improve more and more. I want to be able to declare and initialize all types of variables on my own and make players pick up and drop items. I hope to be able to do these things by my next monthly check-in.

***

Also, I feel sad that I haven't carved out any time to work on my papercraft book form ideas. I hope that I will, soon.
